Designer, author, storyteller…etc., etc.
I’ve been a professional designer for more than 25 years. There’s nothing quite so satisfying as creating covers that help a book instantly connect with a reader. Over the years I’ve had the opportunity to work with major publishers and hundreds of indie authors alike, designing books that stand out on the shelf and in digital storefronts.
Some of my most notable collaborations have been with authors like Hugh Howey (Wool, Sand), Max Allan Collins (Supreme Justice), Annie Bellet (Goodnight, Apocalypse), Gary Whitta (Abomination), and editors John Joseph Adams (The Apocalypse Triptych) and David Gatewood (Synchronic, the Chronicles anthologies).
I’m also an author myself, with books on both sides of the publishing experience: Traditionally-published books like Awake in the World (Roaring Brook, 2019) and Eleanor (Crown, 2016), and The Edge of Sleep (St. Martin’s Press, 2023), which I co-wrote; and self-published books like Greatfall, Deep Breath Hold Tight, and the Movement series. I have a unique understanding of how much a book means to its author, and how important it is to design just the right cover to find the readers who will love it.
I live with my family and three cats on a hill in Scappoose, Oregon, where I’m currently working on a new novel. You can learn more about me and my books at jasongurley.com.
